Free Range - A Collective Family Memoir is a work in progress. Free Range is an interactive memoir exploring the experience of growing up in South Wales as one of eleven children in the 1970's. It was developed on the Lifewriting module of the MA Writing at Sheffield Hallam University This project brings together my writing and research interests as a documentary maker. I set out to create a work where multiple contradictory narratives exist in different forms (writing, film, audio, photography, oral history) alongside one another. I wanted to explore the way families use stories and artefacts to mythologise and narrativise the past. Free Range examines the fragility and unreliability of these myths and memories and looks at the way different versions of the past are often disputed or negotiated within families. |
